2007-2008 Auction Committee  Open

This committee organizes this adult function, which is usually held in the late fall.  The committee solicits
the item donations for the silent auction, plans for the location and date of the event, sells tickets,
arranges for the food and auction item display, produces the auction catalog, and conducts the auction at
the event. This is a major fundraising event for the PTO. The event is open to families, friends, and faculty.
Donations are sought and accepted year-round.

Faculty Follies/Student Talent Show  Open

This committee will work with the Theater Department to organize faculty/student talent show.  Includes
ticket sales, advertising, and soliciting acts.

Membership Committee  Open

This committee prepares new membership packets, holds membership drives, collects registration forms,
tracks registered members, and helps recruit volunteers for committees and events. This committee is
very vital to the existence of the PTO and members should be very detail oriented.

Nominating Committee Open

This committee recruits and nominates parents for officer positions on the PTO Board for the following
school year. Although not a requirement, the committee usually consists of at least one representative
from each grade level. The committee presents a proposed slate of officers at the April PTO meeting to be
voted on at the May meeting.

Publicity Open

This committee helps the school’s staff keep HISD, the Houston Chronicle and various neighborhood
publications aware of student and faculty achievements and activities. It also helps track information on
our Seniors and fifth year students as to the scholarships they have been offered and the colleges and
universities into which they have been accepted. This information is used for recruiting new students to
Challenge as well as letting existing students and parents know what they might be able to expect in the
future.

Graduation Committee Open

This committee will arrange for hospitality table at graduation ceremony in May.  Committee will be
responsible for serving simple refreshments such as punch, cookies, and coffee.  Participation by parents
of Junior or Senior students is preferred.  

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee  Open

This committee organizes functions such as breakfasts or luncheons at least twice yearly for Challenge
teachers and staff as an expression of appreciation.  This committee function may also include other
means of demonstrating appreciation, such as giving of gift items or fulfilling “wish lists” through
solicitation of donations.  


Monday Pizza Sales Open

This committee will sell pizza and canned drinks (or other food items as agreed) to Challenge students
during the designated lunch period.  Sales will normally be held every Monday.  This committee recruits
parents to assist with the food sales, orders the pizza or other food items (as agreed), and tracks sales
and receipts.  


Directory/Directory Ad Sales  Open

Layout and design of student directory and solicitation for ads.  This responsibility includes gathering
student information, proof-reading, printing and distribution.
